Pursuant to a media report dated 24.01.14 regarding gang rape of a tribal girl in village Subalpur under Labhpur Police Station in the district of Birbhum, the Commission sought for a report from Superintendent of Police, Birbhum, Suri. In response to our direction the Superintendent of Police, Birbhum sent a report dated 31.01.14 in which it is stated that 13 no. of FIR named accused person were arrested on 22.01.14 and several sorts of civil assistants such as housing facilities, widow pension and relief under Disaster Management Department, treatment and other facilities were rendered to the victim girl. In addition, the victim girl was provided security from the district police end.

Again the Commission sought a latest status report about the incident vide memo. no. 73/ WBHRC/Com/1896/13-14 dated 22.05.14 and in response to the letter of the Commission, the S.P. sent a report vide its memo. no. 3984E dated 02.07.14 in which the S.P. reiterated that the victim girl was provided above mentioned benefits by the civil administration. It may be noted initially the victim girl was provided a financial aid of Rs. 50,000/- but as per direction of the Hon’ble Supreme Court a sum of Rs. 5,00,000/- was paid to the victim girl by the State Government and presently the victim girl was given accommodation at Asha Short Stay Home at Suri and she was undergoing some vocational training.

The Commission appreciated the action-taken by the District Police Administration. The matter now ended in a charge-sheet to the Ld. A.C.J.M. Court, Bolpur vide no. 52/14 dated 17.04.14.
